Sharing who you are with others in your life is not a one time thing and can be a great challenge. In therapy, you will explore your supports, safety, and sense of readiness when contemplating this step in your life.

Political Anxiety

Politics impact the lives and mental well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals and can be a major source of distress and anxiety. Therapy is a place to talk through those anxieties and find outlets to navigate news, politics, and political engagement.

Relationships of all sorts can be impacted by coming out as LGBTQ+ from family to friends to dating. The unique aspects of dating and navigating family supportiveness can be processed and discussed in therapy.

About LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy

LGBTQ+ affirming therapy is an approach that sees sexuality and gender expression as a diverse and varied aspect of human life and that lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, transgender, queer, or polyamorous identities are not deviant or less valid than heterosexual, cisgender, or monogamous identities.

This type of therapy understands and addresses unique aspects of being LGBTQ+ including stigma, marginalization, self-exploration, community, and politics. Additionally, aspects of sexual orientation and gender identity intersect with other identities including race, ethnicity, religion, SES, and disability. All of these intersecting identities are explored in therapy.

In practice, this approach to therapy is centered around your needs as the client and adaptable. Therapy involves self-exploration, discussion of relationships, and developing paths to better self-expression, authenticity, safety, and community.

In terms of my experience and relevant information, I have led with LGBTQ+ therapy groups, worked with clients from a wide variety of sexual orientation and gender identities, and have assisted clients with accessing gender affirming care. I myself identify as gay and non-binary.
